Terri Riden - Director of Music
I started at Tift College in 1976 as a mere child, and graduated in 1980. I sang and toured with the Tift College Choir for all four years, and I took some private voice lessons from our Choir director, Mr. Collins. He was amazing. I also toured locally with a group called “Just People” during the summers that I was home from college.
A quarter before I graduated from Tift, I married Ben Riden and we moved back to Madison from Macon in l981. I visited with him at BUMC. The people were warm and friendly, and Florence Wagnon had heard me sing at my wedding. ( She had planned this for a while) She approached me early on and invited me to choir practice. I decided I’d go, but wasn’t sure I wanted to become a Methodist since I’d had such a strong Baptist background. She was directing the choir as she played the organ, and asked me if I would direct them. I misunderstood and thought she said, “Will you correct us?” When I realized what she wanted me to do, I tried to get out of it, but if you knew Florence you know that you didn’t tell her no. She was insistent and I have been here for 27 year and counting. I have been blessed in so many ways through my contact with the people and pastors of our little church, and know that God has had His Almighty hand on me the entire time. I have learned many lessons about people, commitment and the joy of praising God through song. The gifts he gives us are meant to be used to the honor and glory of His kingdom.
Georgeana Tamplin - Organist
Georgeana was baptized and raised in the Bostwick Methodist Church. She began playing the piano in the church in her teens following in the footsteps of her grandmother and mother. Following college at UGA she returned to Morgan County and lived in Madison until the death of her husband in 1993 when she returned to her home church. Shortly after coming back to Bostwick UMC, she was asked to play the piano with the organist Nadine Shaller. They played together until Ms. Shaller's retirement when she began playing the organ for the Church services.
