Pastor's Pen
Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
July 2008
It’s July in Georgia, that means hot summer nights and Vacation Bible School. I remember VBS at Elizabeth Lee UMC in Chickamauga. There were lots of cookies and cool-aid. I also remember Sandra McClure chasing me through the kitchen one time. I made a hard left out of the kitchen and ran through a sliding glass door that was open in the fellowship hall. As I ran through, I pulled it shut behind me. Sandra came out of the kitchen and ran right into the glass door, full speed. Thankfully, she wasn’t hurt bad. Glass flew everywhere, but she just had a couple of small cuts. We both learned a lesson. I learned not to run through the kitchen and she learned not to trust Doug Jordan. I hope she doesn’t know where I am now so she can’t come to Bostwick and tell tales on me.
We’ve reached the end of our Vacation Bible School here at Bostwick UMC. It’s been great. There have been lots of kids having fun, and plenty of great adults and teens to lead them in discovering more about who Jesus is. I just hope we have been making memories these kids will remember for a lifetime. No broken glass doors, please.
Buddy the Porcupine has also made a good connection with many of the kids. And our song leaders taught them some great, new songs to remember these nights by.
Sunday night they saw Jesus call Matthew the Tax Collector to be one of His Disciples. On Monday night Jesus healed a blind man with mud. On Tuesday night the Centurion's sick servant was healed. Wednesday night Lazarus was raised from the dead with Mary and Martha looking on. Thursday night Jesus had a conversation with Mary Magdalene.
Through music, Scripture memorization, and crafts we have all learned more about Jesus and God’s creation. The crafts will become keepsakes to remind them of the fun of VBS and who Jesus is in their lives.
Vacation Bible School at Bostwick UMC, there’s nothing like it, thank you Muriel, Cindy and Laurie.
Grace and peace to you,
Pastor Doug
