Pastor's Pen
Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2009

2009 can be a great year for us at Bostwick UMC.  It can be, if we let it and help it.  Great years don't just happen, they develop through hard work, commitment and most of all, prayer.

As we begin this new year, be sure to add the Church to your prayer list.  Pray for the Church, the leadership of the Church and for your Pastor.  If we are to do things right this year, we need prayer that God will show us the way.  We want to make sure we stay in the center of His will.  If we do that, we will be blessed in our efforts, every time.

With the help of the North Georgia Conference we are looking into making some short, medium and long range plans for Bostwick UMC.  We have been blessed so much through the years and now we need to make sure we pass those blessings along.  I'm afraid if we don't the blessings will dry up.  In the Scriptures we can see that The Lord is adamant about using blessings He has given.  Did you see what was said to the man who had received one talent and did nothing with it?

Matthew 25:24-30 - "Then the man who had received the one talent came. 'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.'

26 "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.

28 "'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents . 29 For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'  (NIV)

I don't want that to happen to me, to us.  Let us make sure, in 2009, that we use our talents wisely.  As we use them God will give us more.

Then we can "Praise God from whom all blessings flow," even more.

Have a Great 2009,

Pastor Doug
